VowBound · Last updated August 14, 2026
The short version: VowBound keeps your vows and device restrictions on your phone. If you pair with a guardian, the information needed for that accountability relationship is stored in Apple's CloudKit service and shared with that guardian. We do not sell your data or use advertising or analytics SDKs.
Who We Are
VowBound ("the App") is developed by GDW Entertainment, LLC. This policy explains how the App handles information when you use its accountability and app-blocking features.
Information Stored on Your Device
The following information is stored locally on your device:
- Your vows, schedules, selected app or category restrictions, unlock settings, streaks, and preferences.
- Guardian connection names and pairing settings.
- Optional place settings used for an on-device geofence, including the place name, coordinates, radius, and dwell time.
- Essential-app settings and the opaque tokens Apple provides to apply Screen Time restrictions.
- A guardian PIN, when used for local single-device approval, stored securely in the iOS Keychain.
Screen Time and App Restrictions
With your permission, VowBound uses Apple's Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity frameworks to apply the app restrictions you select. Apple provides the App with opaque selection tokens rather than a list of your installed apps. We do not use this information for advertising, analytics, or marketing.
Guardian Pairing and CloudKit
Remote guardian features are optional. When you pair with a guardian, VowBound uses Apple's CloudKit public database to route approval requests and decisions between your devices. The information sent through CloudKit can include:
- Pairing code, connection role, request and vow identifiers, and timestamps.
- Your vow title and the requested action, such as an unlock, schedule, edit, or verification-method request.
- Settings needed for that request, such as a chosen app-usage rule or an approved geofence rule.
- A proof photo, if you choose to submit one to your guardian.
- The guardian's approval or rejection decision.
This information is shared with the guardian connected by your pairing code and is stored by Apple through CloudKit. CloudKit records are not used by GDW Entertainment for advertising or analytics.
Location Data
If you choose a location-based unlock method, VowBound uses your location on-device to determine whether you have entered and remained at the place you selected. Your ongoing live location is not sent to your guardian or to GDW Entertainment.
When you ask a guardian to approve a location-based unlock method, the selected place's name, map coordinates, radius, and dwell-time rule are included in that approval request and shared with the guardian through CloudKit. You can avoid this sharing by choosing another unlock method or by not sending the location method for approval.
You can revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings.
Health Data
If you choose a Health-based unlock method, VowBound reads only the workout, step-count, or active-energy data needed to evaluate the goal you selected. This processing occurs on your device. VowBound does not write Health data, send Health data to your guardian, or store Health data in CloudKit.
You can change or revoke Health permission at any time in the Health app or iOS Settings.
Camera and Proof Photos
If you choose photo proof, the App uses your camera only after you initiate that feature. The photo you take is uploaded to CloudKit and made available to the guardian you asked to review it. Do not include sensitive information in a proof photo unless you intend to share it with that guardian.
Notifications
With your permission, VowBound uses notifications to alert guardians about pending requests and to notify owners about decisions. Apple Push Notification service and CloudKit may process the device token and notification information needed to deliver those notifications.
Retention and Deletion
You can delete vows and remove guardian connections in the App. Completed approval requests are deleted by the App after they are processed. Local data is removed when you delete it in the App or uninstall the App, subject to iOS backup settings.
CloudKit records may remain temporarily because of synchronization, backups, or an incomplete request. To request help deleting remaining CloudKit pairing records, contact us at the address below and include the pairing code or other information needed to identify the connection.
Third-Party Services
VowBound uses Apple-provided services and frameworks, including CloudKit, Apple Push Notification service, Family Controls, HealthKit, Core Location, and the iOS Keychain. The App does not include third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs, and we do not sell personal information.
Children's Privacy
VowBound is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
